Introduction

You are about to become ambassadors at the first annual Medina Elementary Christmas Around the World Celebration. We will research and celebrate the ways different countries celebrate Christmas. You have things to see and places to be, so lets go!

Task

Your task will be to attend a "Christmas Around the World" celebration as ambassador from another country. You and your fellow ambassador will be presenters at the celebration. You will gather information so that you can make a poster and present the information to whomever visits your countries embassy! You will welcome everyone to your country by giving them a small informational book.

Process

1. Your teacher will divide you into groups. You will receive an Ambassador Badge and a passport; which you will need to have when you travel and present to others. Each group will be assigned one of the following countries to explore.

Australia
Brazil
England
Greece
Ireland
Mexico
  • Locate your country on a world map.
  • Find your country and print out an "unlabeled outline" map. You will need to put it on your poster.

2. You will prepare for your presentation by learning about your country. Each group will use a tri-fold poster board to display their research. Use the example below to set up your poster:

Gift Bringer

include text,

pictures and

drawings

NAME OF COUNTRY

Map of Country, flag

Food

drawings

Customs

Take a look at this example to get an idea of what your poster may look like. All text must be typed in Microsoft Word, printed and glued onto the poster board. You will record all your research in a research journal. Don't loose it because you'll need it to complete you poster and make a small book to give your guests!

3. Now you are ready to begin your research!

4. You are ready to prepare your presentation for the celebration:

  • Invite guests to the celebration.
  • Display your mini lesson work
  • Arrange your classroom conference style.
  • Decide which partner will do the reading and which will support with technology.

Think about and practice what you're going to say; the invitation will go home and to teachers around the school in a few short days!

5. Reflect on the work that you've done. When the party is over and you return "home" you will need to debrief with your countrymen. Complete the questionnaire and share it with your partner.
